Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 3

In Greene County district court Paul Ryan Purviance, 65, of Perry was sentenced Nov. 2 to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit fraudulent practice- third degree, amended from gambling- avoid setoff. The prison term was suspended and he was placed in probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. he must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $166.94 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Dalton Weber, 25, of Scranton was sentenced Nov. 3 to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- second offense, amended from domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense. All but two days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. Weber was fined $855 with a $128.55 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $319.40 court costs. Logan Chase Ferguson, 22, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. A judgment was entered for a $105 civil penalty and a $15.75 surcharge. Court costs were $60. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 42, of Ames, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense and operating while intoxicated; Audrie Leiann Lawrence, 23, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense and possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; and Nathan Andrew Hubbs, 18, of Des Moines, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. Trial dates were sent for Jan. 30, 2024, in all three cases.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Jason Harold Ferguson, 47, of Stratford, operate motor vehicle without owner’s consent; Joseph Burchfield II, 50, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver not more than 50 kg, and keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation; Conner Laine Groves, 26, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated and child endangerment (two counts); Travis R. Dawson, 28, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; and Joshua James Parrish, 27, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- third degree, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness, and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
